I loved the previous book, The Naughty List, that is loosely related to this book. Checking it Twice was alright. It had all the super hot and steamy sex but unfortunately was lacking the feeling and emotions. It seemed like there was absolutely no relationship development between characters. Some one feels insecure... have sex. Someone is upset...have sex. Someone feels adrift...have sex. There was very little talking things out or discussing issues. I mean I'm all for the hot sex but you gotta resolve some issues with words every now and again because the same issues keep happening.

Great read that was endearing and steamy. Author does a great job of unraveling the plot while providing plenty of heat

It was a great book and if you enjoyed "The Naughty List", you should definitely read it. I gave it four stars, not five, only because of Kevin - seriously, the guy was a bit creepy, I couldn't understand why Jana wanted him so much. Jana and Nick were wonderful, so I just pretended there was no Kevin. Other than that, a great story.

Jodi Redford does it again! At times romantic and emotional, at others delightfully witty, Ms. Redford delivers another worthwhile read for this holiday season. Despite her ability to write smokin' hot love scenes, she gives depth to her characters and allows the reader to emotionally bond with them without being cheesy. All in all, Checking It Twice is a fantastic follow-up to The Naughty List.

5Stars Absolutely enthralling story written with depth of emotions surrounding the main characters blended with an incomparable and erotic voyeuristic story line. It Will keep you riveted to the end. A MUST READ!!!!!! Wonderfully captivating. Absolutely will become an author of my favorites to read .

Hot hot hot. Plus the emotions pull you in. I loved the characters and was cheering for them through the whole book.

For me it was a fast read . Jana has a wish list for Christmas to get Kevin in her bed naked but then Nick shows up and the story get real good. You will enjoy and won't be able to put it down.

This book was everything it promised..hot, sensual, erotic and a damn good story!!Every woman should read this....so good couldnt put it down!!

Wow. I guess I must start by confessing that I'm clearly not intelligent enough to fully understand and enjoy this novel. To be more accurate, I may have the innate intelligence to do so, but am not willing to invest the time necessary. Suffice it to say that David Foster Wallace is one highly evolved human being.That having been said, despite the fact that I was frequently adrift while working my way through what can be some pretty dense prose, there were kernels of brilliance that even I was able to appreciate. The writing is magnificent and much of the underlying story (consisting of numerous threads, some of which I could not, for the life of me, connect until near the end of the book) is highly entertaining. There are frequent references to organizations, acronyms and events which make absolutely no sense for hundreds of pages until an information dump occurs which suddenly brings things into sharp focus.For example, reference is early and often made to the Great Concavity. By context, it slowly becomes clear that the term refers to some sort of territorial dispute between U.S. and Canada. Finally, round about page 450, the entire history is hashed out in a very entertaining and illuminating fashion.The focus of the novel is a Boston tennis academy, the Incandenza family which founded the academy and whose children have passed through it, or are currently involved with it, and a nearby substance abuse treatment facility. The story line jumps back and forth in and among several different story threads involving members of the Incandenza family, unrelated nearby residents and still other seemingly unconnected individuals and organizations.In Wallace's wacky alternate reality, the United States has elected an insane Vegas performer as President and the countries of Canada, Mexico and the U. S. have merged into a union of sorts. The northeastern U. S. is ceded to Canada and used as a giant landfill for hazardous waste. Through this backdrop is floating an incapacitating video, possession of which is greatly valued and sought by a Canadian (Quebecois) separatist group consisting of wheelchair bound amputees. Wallace's world is at times bizarre, at others ridiculous and at still others, prescient.In what seems to be a trend among some of my more recently read novels, the book contains copious endnotes which run for pages at a time and contain the most bizarre and seemingly random information. In any event, the book is certainly unusual and at times brilliant. Even when read in a cursory manner, this book is a project.

**This review will contain (minor) spoilers. It is designed as a resource for potential readers who fear Infinite Jest is plotless.**David Foster Wallace's magnum opus is definitely one of the most polarizing popular novels in recent memory. It is rare to find a reader who is lukewarm about this book -- one tends to either love it or loathe it enormously.The main problem the loathers seem to have with IJ is that, to them, there is either no plot or the plot is too hard to follow. I disagree as it actually has a very tightly constructed narrative that opens with a series of vignettes that orient the reader to the universe (in dystopias I believe this is called "universe"-or-"world building") through the perspective of various characters, some more consequential than others. The seemingly scattered opening does not, however, mean that Infinite Jest is another one of those somewhat plotless postmodern academic tomes... the category that "Gravity's Rainbow" arguably could fit into.On the contrary IJ contains a wonderful (and obviously allegorical) narrative that carries the reader through a not so distant North America completely consumed by its relentless desire to entertain itself... and corporations' eagerness to provide avenues to fulfill those desires. Yes, this is an idea-heavy novel with many strong philosophical, technical, intellectual, and meditative passages -- many of which are dazzlingly well written, such as the AA meetings, Hal's depression battle, the nature of celebrity envy, etc. etc. -- but they are woven into a fun and tragic plot that with a little trust and patience with the author are not hard to follow.If you are thinking about buying and reading this novel, don't be afraid you won't be able to "get it"... that's so overblown by its reputation as a classic literary masterpiece... ironically a label Wallace himself hated because it changes how readers approach books.Here's a loose outline of the plot, in the order it's presented narratologically.-- 17 y/o tennis star and lexical genius Hal Incandenza (Protagonist A) has a nervous breakdown during a college interview at Arizona. This is in first person and is the "last" event in the book's chronology.-- Switch to third person and back to an earlier times. The years can be tricky because they're named after corporate products rather than numbered. There is a reference key early on. Other characters are introduced, including a white collar pot addict (who doesn't return till far later), Hal's older brothers Orin and Mario and their mother Avril, an unnamed black girl from Boston, Hal's late-father James, and Hal's friends and tennis teammates from his athletic boarding school, Enfield Tennis Academy in Massachusetts. Certain chapters are entirely dialogue or entirely inside the mind and voice of a character. Others are more conventionally narrated in Wallace's patented tragicomic style.-- Oral narcotics addict Don Gatley (protagonist B) is introduced. He is at rock bottom and kills a man on accident who turns out to be a Canadian terrorist leader stationed in Brookline.-- We learn more about ETA. Hal's father James founded it and his mother and uncle now run it together.-- Remy Marathe and Hugh/Helen Steeply are introduced. They are secret agents on opposing sides (Canada/US) in a convoluted triple-cross, ultimately trying to locate "Infinite Jest" (aka The Entertainment), a film cartridge so entertaining that one cannot stop watching it and dies. Quebecois assassins want it as a weapon. Hal's dad was the filmmaker, and he wanted to be buried with the master copy after his suicide. Many of the details surrounding the film itself, including how it leaked, are open to speculation. The search for this film is what winds the two narrative halves together... even if they don't meet exactly in the text itself. :)-- We learn about Ennet House Drug and Alcohol Recovery House [sic], just across the street from ETA, where Don is now a live in staffer and on 400-something days of full sobriety. Many characters are introduced here.-- We meet Joelle (aka Madam Psychosis), a radio host who tries killing herself with a crack OD. She ends up at Ennet House.-- Now that the new world (its technologies, its politics, its culture, its characters from the 3 main settings) have been introduced, the narrative motion takes a backseat to Wallace's at times indulgent but always brilliant and entertaining scenes in which the characters really come alive and interact. We get some great tennis writing as well as the best addiction/sobriety writing in modern fiction.-- The plot picks back up after a major catalyst event I won't spoil here. Although newbies can easily join the series here, it has been compelling to follow the evolution of relationships and especially the mystery surrounding Tess’s father as they slowly unfolding throughout the books. However, I always want more about the mysteries and murder that Kathi creates. She often summarizes important phone calls or conversations or computer searches after the fact instead of real time, and when a mystery started in the past, she does not employ flashbacks that I'd find engaging. But it's realism she captures! I still am totally entertained.

Old love, new love, different sorts of love and relationships, all play a role in this, Kathi Daley's 100th novel. I regret to say, I wasted too many years as a class "B" chess player trying to improve by primarily working on my openings. I guess I just found opening theory more interesting. I finally got around to working through this text, (and now have several more middle game texts in the queue).The material can be difficult and sometimes a little dry, and one needs to engage in relatively small doses, an individuals understanding of chess will be greatly rewarded by the effort. I have thus far spent about 12 hours and am roughly 2/3rds of the way through this text. Already, I find myself getting into better positions with a clearer understanding and more confidence, particularly where pawn levers, and other pawn structure considerations are involved. I expect to return to this book in a few months and refresh my memory of the material, especially in positions where my opening repertoire is involved.A serious work for serious intermediate players, who are tired of languishing and want to make genuine progress in the game they love.

There are plenty of books on pawns out there that examine doubled pawns, iso's, and hanging pawns etc..., but this one is different. It explores the pawn structures that arise out of the opening families and explains the character of the middlegames that are encountered with the plans and counterplans for each side.I find this particularly instructional for the white side of the board since as black you can always buy a particular opening book to play against king or queen pawn openings. But, as white, you will encounter a wide variety of openings from your first move, and its expensive to buy a bunch of queen (king) pawn opening books and not much use since you are more interested in the basic ideas instead of trees of variations that you won't retain. That's why this book is special. Its sort of a painless way to know your openings, just by knowing basic plans to pursue. it will give you insight into what to play based on the given structure of your pawns (kingside play vs queenside play, when to push to c5 or e5 in the Slav/Caro , how to attack the base or head of chains [in some instances] in the French, how to play with and against Sicilian Boleslvsky Holes, the QG Exchange Variation and its minority attacks, the Isiolated d pawn game and how to play with and against it, etc...I remember seeing the first version several years ago in a Library and picked through it a little, I got this one when I learned he came out with a revised edition. It is basically the same book with more modern games and ideas woven in. The only reason I won't give it 5 stars is that it is rather terse in its analysis throughout and the supplemental games aren't too helpful since they contain very little to no analysis. This is probably done on purpose and is Soltis' style but deeper analysis in key places would have been nice. But overall its a painless, interesting read and whether you are Class C or Expert you will gain understanding and hopefully improve your play from the book.

This is one of the classics of the chess literature, and possibly GM Soltis' greatest book of many fine ones he has written. In it, he examines the major types of pawn structures, largely breaking them down by the openings they arise from. For example, there are chapters titled 'The Caro-Slav Family', 'The Open Sicilian/English', and 'The Nimzo-Gruenfeld Formation'. Example games are insightfully chosen. A characteristic of the book is that many older games are chosen, as players in the 1800's and early 20th century did not have positional/strategic skills anywhere near that of the modern GM. So their mistakes are more serious, and much more instructive for the developing player. Soltis describes in detail 12 common pawn structures. His big ideas are 1) to teach recognition of what good and bad structures look like, 2) to show how to exploit good ones, and 3) how to favorably change the structure (which he warns often requires tactics to achieve). The book is instructional, but not comprehensive, so some important structures are not discussed. This book should not be your first book on positional/strategic chess, as it is specialized and fairly advanced. I would suggest Silman's 'How to Reassess Your Chess' 4th Ed. as much better for the developing player. But once you have mastered that volume, this would be a candidate for your next strategic instructional text, as it is very rich in great examples and clear, concise and insightful verbal explanations of how to understand and use the pawn structure to make your pieces work for you and impede your opponents' piece play. Highly recommended, but rather than this edition, get the new revised edition, just out in 2013!

Andrew Soltis delivers a powerful teaching vehicle for understanding basic pawn structures and the strategic objectives for them. The book focuses on chess strategy as a consequence of the pawn structure; it does not concentrate on tactics or end game issues, and previous reviewers that knock the book on those points neglect the author's goal.His teaching technique is synthetic rather than analytic. He discusses a pawn structure and possible strategies to consider and illustrates his thesis with one or more games. I like this approach because it allows the reader to see the pawn structure as it develops and then observe its influence on the middle game and the end game. This style also allows weaker players to study pawn structure without getting bogged down with technical issues like tactical concerns or trying to memorize a bunch of do's and dont's.Soltis makes no claim to exhaust the topic, though the many applications seem comprehensive enough for the non-master. An excellent book for the 1500-2000 player.

About the Author

Sean McNamara spent his childhood overseas in and was exposed to a variety of spiritual traditions. Early incidents of illness and surgery brought on a persistent fear and contemplation of death and of what happens afterward. In his twenties, McNamara became a Buddhist practitioner, using meditation to investigate the nature of consciousness and reality. Because many traditions eventually become rigid and limiting out of a need for self-preservation, and do so at the cost of each individual's unique development, McNamara took a different path. He found lucid dreaming and the out-of-body experience to be especially potent methods for his spiritual inquiry, and free of the dogmatic qualities found elsewhere. He eventually applied his knowledge of meditation to telekinesis to illustrate the themes of interconnectedness and intention to his meditation students. He currently teaches meditation, lucid dreaming, the out-of-body experience, and telekinesis in Denver, Colorado, with the purpose of showing others that spiritual growth is still possible as an independent, self-empowering, and revelatory path. Very nice and rich in knowledge. The writer knows very well his field. If anyone falls onto the study and practice with this book seriously, will go beyond the scope of this book. ie the writer shown and demonstrates some different methods to go through the 5 levels in order for someone to accomplish the primary stages of telekinesis, because telekinesis does not stop here or any other manual to read. Telekinesis has various and many forms of manifesting through. Not only moving light objects, or enclosed in a glass container. But someone can even manage to walk on water or moving circumstances and events, even re generate the cells of his body, and many more. Its just enough for someone to search and find.

There have been plenty of times when I set up a piece of foil or paper on a needle and tried to move it. This book gave me confidence to try again and it addresses the issue of what to do while putting in the time with it when it isn't moving yet. It isn't every time, because it does take time to learn, but I do consistently get good movement and my foil is under glass. The confidence it gives me carries over to other things in my life which also seem difficult or impossible.

I've very satisfied with this book so far. I'm just messing around with Level 1 and trying to see if I can get a response, but I love the down to earth and rational path that Sean McNamara takes. It's much less about the "Why" and a lot more about the "How" when it comes to Psycho-Kinesis, which is a HUGE rarity when it comes to Alternative Views today. Most books are filled to the brim with shaky explanations on how it all works, and I can speak from experience as someone who follows a more spiritual path, with many of the authors trying to persuade or intimidate you into their way of thinking about the world.This is why I LOVE this book; plenty of exercises and training methods for the mind, which is what I wanted from a book like this. Though I've read the book cover to cover and written notes on the processes, I'm just now digging into the exercises. It's day one so I don't expect miracles, but Sean McNamara's no nonsense and honest way of writing has me feeling that he is very trustworthy, to say nothing of the fact that he has many You-tube videos demonstrating his abilities.As for the delivery, I was amazed. I had gotten the Standard Shipping and was expecting this book sometime around the 24th of June. To my surprise I got it just 3 days after ordering! I am very satisfied with my purchase and would implore anyone looking for a possible path into the Meta-Physical world, one which gives verifiable and measurable results I might add, to definitely pick up this book!TLDR; 5/5, My delivery was incredible and so is the contents of this training manual.

I have not read all of this book as yet, there are exercises to complete along the way,but it is both exciting and challenging to get involved in this activity and I look forward to great success in the future.

We will see after practicing for a while. As a skeptic I must hold some caution to diving into random subjects

I’m in the middle of his book and loving it! I also purchased his two video programs and have found them very helpful. I was also fortunate enough to hear him present recently. The book and video program give clear and concise instructions and suggestions that I plan to follow diligently to achieve results. Remember, it takes time, effort, and an open mind! Sean is someone who is of high integrity and is putting this information out to transform and help people have better lives. Why not give it a shot and see what happens?

For what this is, it's gorgeous.The art drew me in from the initial purchase, and it carried me through the 24 pages the story inhabits. (Nobrow Press should be extremely happy with the quality of work, and product, they're producing.)Really, though, if the art doesn't get you, then I don't think this will be for you. The story works well enough in carrying us through a mini-arc in these few pages, but it didn't resonate with me as others have. Honestly, though, that's not a bad thing.For me, half of a comic is simply being drawn in and absorbed by the way the graphic story is told, and the artwork and page design / layout in THE NEW GHOST is nothing short of fantastic. I love the colors and parallelism and the tone they create.In short, if you think the cover is gorgeous, you should probably spend the dollars to buy the whole book.

I decided to purchase because of another short I read called "Fish" that was published by Nobrow's 17x23. The artwork in this is absolutely beautiful but the writing leaves much to be desired. I found it flat and mechanical, it didn't really add that much to the story. I honestly wonder if the artist could have foregone most of the text with more captivating drawings. For example, instead of saying, "I was helped to my feet and invited inside to rest" or "As we walked I searched the sky in the hope of spotting the group again," show the ghost doing just that. At the least, some dialogue would've been desired but I'm sure there were constraints/guidelines that I as the reader am unaware of.

This is a very small comic, only 24 pages, but I think it's totally worth it. It is a rather simple story to understand (depending on perspective), but it is so well made, and relies more on the images rather than the words. It's meant to be appreciated for what you see, rather than what you read. I don't think people will get lost while reading this, and it doesn't treat you like a child.Truly beautiful.

The artwork is mediocre, the writing even moreso. Hardly a gripping short story. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Very elegantly written, dark(ish) comedy, kind of cuddly, goofy vibe though. The illustrations arevisually vibrant and the outfits are decidedly along the line of what Wes Anderson would like todress people like. It ended on a high note for me! Unexpected and fresh.

This is a quick read but an amazing one nonetheless. The illustration is breathtaking and the story is sweet and emotional. I love this format of visual storytelling!

It's a beautiful book, not only the story but also how it's made.Happy with my purchase. I'm thinking of buying another for a present.
